Make a paper turkey headband for a classroom celebration or a family photo. A headband works best when the decoration is light and the band is adjusted to the wearer, rather than relying on a single fixed measurement. This printable provides the turkey decoration and a simple starting point for building a comfortable paper band from supplies most classrooms already have.
How to use this printable
- Color the turkey decoration while it is still on the full sheet. Choose a few feather colors and repeat them for a simple pattern.
- Cut the turkey and band pieces. An adult should help around narrow neck or feather sections and keep the loose scraps away from the work area.
- Wrap a paper band around the wearer without tightening it. Add another paper strip if needed, then secure the overlap with tape on the outside.
- Attach the turkey to the front of the fitted band. Cover any rough joins with tape and check that the decoration stays above the eyes.
Make the activity your own
For a class set, have children write their names inside the band before assembly. Keep a few extra plain strips ready because head sizes vary. The craft can become a patterning lesson when students explain a repeated feather sequence. For a quieter activity, ask each child to write one thankful word on a feather before the turkey is attached.
Printing and questions
Print the PDF on US Letter paper in portrait orientation. Start with one copy and check the preview before making a classroom set. Use ordinary paper for a worksheet, or cardstock when the finished piece needs to stand up to handling.
Will one band fit everyone?
No. Measure each wearer and extend the band with plain paper as needed. Avoid using a tight band to hold a heavy decoration.
Can I use a stapler?
Tape or glue is easier to keep away from skin. If an adult uses staples, cover the metal completely before wearing the band.
