A Thanksgiving word scramble makes a useful quiet activity while food is being prepared or a class is settling after recess. This puzzle uses familiar holiday and fall vocabulary rather than obscure trivia. Players rearrange the letters to discover words, and a separate answer page lets the host check solutions without giving away the puzzle at the start.

What to make

The word list mixes short entries such as pie and corn with longer entries such as harvest and grateful. That range gives less confident readers somewhere to begin while leaving a few challenges for older players. The answer key belongs with the adult or on a separate table until everyone has had a chance to try.

How to use this printable

  1. Print one puzzle per player or one per pair, and keep the answer page out of view until the end.
  2. Ask players to solve the shortest entries first, crossing out or marking letters as they place them into a word.
  3. Give a theme clue when a player is stuck, such as “a food,” “a feeling,” or “something growing in a field.”
  4. Compare answers together and let players explain which letter combination helped them recognize a difficult word.

Make the activity your own

For a cooperative table game, allow everyone to offer one clue without saying the complete answer. For a classroom lesson, have students choose three solved words and use each in a sentence. A timed round is optional; removing the timer makes the activity easier to share across ages. If spelling is the learning goal, ask students to check the completed words against the answer page before putting the sheets away.

Questions before you begin

Can younger children use a word bank?

Yes. Write the unscrambled words on a board and let children match their letters. Cover the bank for the final few entries if they want a challenge.

Are these answers from another publisher’s puzzle?

No. This is an original word list with its own matching answer key. It is not an answer sheet for a different worksheet.
