Use Thanksgiving preparation stories to review multiplication as equal groups. Students connect short situations with number sentences, solve facts and label the result. This worksheet includes manageable products so learners can draw an array or use repeated addition if they are still developing recall. It is a practice page rather than a replacement for teaching what multiplication represents.

How to use this printable

  1. Read each situation and identify the number of groups and the number in each group. Keep those two quantities visible before writing the equation.
  2. Draw an array or equal-group picture for at least one problem. Compare the model with the multiplication expression.
  3. Solve the remaining facts and story questions. Add a unit such as napkins, cards or seats to each story answer.
  4. Check the answers and choose a related fact for one expression. Explain how changing the order of the factors changes the picture while keeping the product.

Make the activity your own

Pair problems with a real classroom arrangement when possible: six tables with four seats each is easy to model using counters. Students who already recall the facts can write a division equation that uses the same numbers. Students needing support can solve fewer questions and explain them more carefully. A complete explanation of two problems is more informative than a page of guesses.

Printing and questions

Print the PDF on US Letter paper in portrait orientation. Start with one copy and check the preview before making a classroom set. Use ordinary paper for a worksheet, or cardstock when the finished piece needs to stand up to handling.

Which facts are included?

The page uses common facts with factors up to 9, plus short equal-group stories.

Should students use a multiplication chart?

A chart can support practice, but ask the student to explain at least one answer with equal groups or an array.
