A chef turkey disguise is easy to recognize because a tall hat and apron tell the story quickly. Add a pretend menu or a paper spoon, and the turkey has a new job. This original craft works with ordinary paper and leaves room for children to invent a restaurant, recipe name, and character voice.

Fit the hat and apron

Place the turkey base on the table before cutting costume pieces. The apron should cover much of the body while leaving the face visible. Give the hat a wide lower band so it can overlap the top of the head without falling behind the bird.

  1. Color the turkey’s face and any parts you want to show.
  2. Cut a broad apron shape and add a pocket.
  3. Make a tall chef hat from a band and rounded top shape.
  4. Arrange the pieces and glue the apron before the smaller details.
  5. Add a paper menu with one or two invented dishes.

Invent the restaurant

Ask the child to name the restaurant and describe its specialty. A silly menu might offer rainbow soup or leaf-shaped pancakes. Keep the writing clearly pretend, particularly if a recipe would not make sense as real cooking instructions. The project is a character-design activity, not a food-preparation lesson.

For an extra disguise challenge, cover the feather fan with a broad kitchen backdrop or turn the visible feathers into part of the restaurant sign. For a classroom display, write one sentence beginning, “I am Chef…” and another explaining why no one would mistake the character for a turkey. Invite classmates to identify the most convincing costume clue.

Frequently asked questions

Does the chef costume need fabric?

No. Paper works for the hat, apron, pocket, and menu. Draw straps and small tools directly on the pieces.

Can I add a real recipe?

You can include a separate family recipe if you wish, but the included activity uses an invented menu and does not provide cooking instructions.
