Turkey bingo is an easy way to bring a mixed-age group into one shared Thanksgiving activity. Instead of numbers, the cards use words associated with fall, gathering, and a festive table. Read the words aloud so younger players can listen and match, while confident readers can help with calling and checking a winning line.

What to make

Use a five-by-five grid with a free center square. The printable word bank gives the caller the same vocabulary used on the cards. Before beginning, decide whether a win means one straight line, the four corners, or a full card. Changing the winning pattern between rounds keeps the same cards useful without adding complicated rules.

How to use this printable

  1. Give each player a card and small paper markers, and keep the caller’s word list where players cannot see the next call.
  2. Explain the winning pattern and demonstrate a horizontal, vertical, and diagonal line before the first round.
  3. Call one word at a time and allow enough time for players to find it; repeat the word when asked.
  4. When someone calls bingo, check the marked words against the caller’s list before beginning another round.

Make the activity your own

For a classroom lesson, ask students to explain or use each called word in a sentence before marking it. For a family table, invite a different caller each round so no one has to lead the entire game. Use large paper squares instead of small counters when very young children are nearby. A cooperative variation challenges the whole table to finish every card together.

Questions before you begin

Can nonreaders play?

Yes, with a reading partner. Preview the word list aloud and let children point to a word as their partner helps find it.

What if two people get bingo on the same call?

Treat it as a shared win. You can also continue until everyone completes the announced pattern.
