A printable turkey head template lets children build a bird from separate parts. Use the head above a paper body, on the front of a folded card, or in a classroom display of original turkey characters. Starting with one recognizable piece leaves plenty of room for a different expression or color scheme.

Match the head to the body

Before coloring, place the printed head beside the body you plan to use. The head should overlap the body enough to give the glue a secure joining area. If the head looks too small, adjust the print scale and try a test copy rather than trimming away the connection.

  1. Color the head while it is still part of the full sheet.
  2. Add facial details you want to change, such as eyebrows or a smile.
  3. Cut the head along its outer edge.
  4. Place it over the upper edge of the body.
  5. Glue the overlap and let the joined pieces rest flat.

Create a character with an expression

Ask children to show a happy, surprised, or curious turkey using a few pencil lines. Compare the expressions and discuss which feature carries the most meaning. A speech bubble can give each bird a short message, such as “What are we making today?”

For a group project, make a large feather fan on a bulletin board and invite each child to attach a small turkey head with their name below it. For an individual craft, attach the head to a paper-bag body or a construction-paper oval. Keep the head pattern as a tracing master if you want to cut it from several paper colors.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this with a separate feather template?

Yes. Build the feather fan behind a body first, then place the head over the front. Check the scale of the pieces before gluing.

Should I cut before coloring?

Coloring first keeps the small piece easier to hold. Cut afterward and add any final details once the head is attached.
